Hi, and welcome back.
The first post in 2019 is about New Year’s,
or Hogmanay,
as we call it here.
Anne and I decided to go to Glasgow, some place we have never been. We found a hotel, The Millennium, that was having a Gala New Year’s Eve Party. It is located on Queen Square, just outside the train station. Easy to get to. Also, Queen Square is where all the shops and booths were for the Christmas Fair. It looked like a good place to go. So on Dec. 30, after 1 1/2 hours on the bus and 5 hours on the train, we arrived at Queen Square.
The evening started with a glass of Prosecco, followed by dinner.
Starter: Salmon and Prawn Terrine
Intermediate: Haggis, tatties, neeps and whiskey cream
Main Course: Roasted Scotch beef fillet, thyme dauphinoise, honey glazed root vegetables, smoked bacon and baby jus
Desserts: Millennium Hogmanay Chocolate plate
The dinner was quite good, In fact it was the best Haggis I have ever eaten. And the tatties and neeps were perfect. The beef was tender and well seasoned. The dessert plate had chocolate mousse, raspberry ice cream, A biscuit with chocolate center and flan.
Then the entertainment started, complete with accordion music. The musician played traditional Scottish music. Some was upbeat and some was not. After about an hour, I was ready for some other kind of music. Anne was ready after about 15 minutes. Then after dinner, about 10, the DJ took over and there was dancing. I was tired so I went upstairs to wait in the room till it was time for midnight. All in all, a pretty good way to start 2019.
I hope your New Year’s Party was good, too. And that 2019 brings you everything you want and/or need. See you next time when I will tell you more about Glasgow.
