A Trip to Banff (23)

Hi,  Good to see you again.

Today we took a short trip to the city of Banff,  Usually, we head west toward Elgin on Bus 35.  This time we headed east from Cullen, same bus.  We had heard about Banff but had never been there before.  We went beyond Banff one stop to MacDuff.  Not a lot to see there, but a pretty port with some big boats.  That ride was about 25 minutes.

We walked around a little and got back on the bus to go back to Banff,  just 2 miles away.  (We could have walked if we had wanted to, maybe.)  Banff is a larger town with a lot to see.  We started at the site of the Banff Castle.  On the site now is a mansion house designed by architect John Adam was built in 1750.  There is an old labyrinth and just part of the old wall.

Walk the labyrinth to the Stone of Umm.

There were 2 men putting up a new sign telling of the site.  And there is a wonderful carving in the yard.  You can get more information if you google Banff Castle, UK.

Then we had lunch and walked a little more about the town.  Banff, like everything is Scotland, is up the hill.  Never seems to be down, just up.

One of the most famous shopping places in Banff is the Spotty Bag Shop.  It is a must see.  So we saw it.  It is huge and has just about anything you might want.

If you can’t find it here, you won’t find it anywhere!

(Their statement, not mine. But it is big.)

We went upstairs to their restaurant and had dessert.  Anne had a strawberry cookie something;  I had some ice cream; and we both had tea.

Then it was time to catch the bus to return home. Unfortunately, it was about 35 minutes late and we were frozen waiting.  Happy to be home and warm.

Hope to see you again tomorrow.
