Hi, good to see you back.
I wish I didn’t have to do this, but today I have some sad news to relate. When Anne and I came here to Cullen for 6 months, we brought our little doggie pal, Fiesta, with us. “Wee duggie”, as they say here.
Just before we left Florida, she had a terrible fall. She dislocated her hip. The ball of the hip just came out of the socket. This happened on a Sunday morning at about 7 am. So, of course, we headed to the emergency vet. After some X-rays and staying overnight and some pain medication, Fiesta came home. Her little butt was in a sling – literally, and she had some difficulty getting around.
By time to leave for Scotland, she seemed well enough and seemed to tolerate the trip well. Here in Scotland, she was, not quite, but almost her old perky self. She walked on the beach and seemed interested in what was going on. She went with us on the trains and buses and stayed in hotels and BnB’s.
She acted like a little ambassador and made friends with everyone she met. In fact, we met many more people than we would have if she hadn’t been along. They all wanted to pat her and take a picture with her.
Then suddenly 2 weeks ago, she got sick. She couldn’t breathe and just gasped for air. She stopped eating and drinking. She quickly started to lose weight. When you weigh only 5 pounds, it doesn’t take long for that to be a problem.
We took a trip to the vet. There was fluid in her lungs. They seemed to think she had aspirated some water and had pneumonia. We treated her for that for a few days and she seemed to get better. Then last weekend, she got worse, a whole lot worse, very fast. There was no coming back for her. We asked the vet to help her across the Rainbow Bridge.
It was the hardest thing for us but the only kind thing for her.
So, we are having her cremated and her ashes buried in a sweet little Pet Cemetery here in Cullen.
Yesterday, we met Steve. He’s the man who cares for the pet cemetery. It is his own pet project and he doesn’t charge. Just asks for a donation. A nice man, but a little squirrely. He also has a “shop”. Sells chamber pots. Not many, according to Steve.
I guess that’s all I have to report. Just good-bye to our little pal.
Linda, Anne….so sorry to read this news. Fiesta was such a cutie, and was enjoying an exciting new life with her Moms.
You’ll both have many warm memories to cherish as you carry on with your Scottish adventure.
I’m glad to know your adopted town has such a sweet little pet cemetery.
Sending healing thoughts from Florida…
